Teac A-2340SX Simul-sync

Hi Guys, Anybody know anything about the TEAC A-2340sx Simul-Sync 4 track reel to reel? My Father owns this but it's still at my house! Ha. This was the first 4 track reel to reel I got to mess with about 10 years ago. We recorded a few songs on it and I thought it sounded pretty good. The only thing I couldn't figure out was this..... The front panel has two 1/4" headphone jacks. One for the front and one for the rear. When listening while wearing headphones, we could never hear all the tracks. I remember getting a headphone splitter but I don't remember that working either.. I was thinking about busting it out, cleaning it up and toying with it again....

"Front" jack -tracks 1 and 3
"Rear" jack -- tracks 2 and 4. ("PLAY" switch down to "4 channel" position)
If you have any tape with "regular" stereo recordings on it (for example) recorded on 'both sides'. If you play it back - you should be able to hear tracks 1 and 3 from "FRONT" jack - just as regular stereo and from "REAR" jack you would hear tracks 2 and 4 playing backward
to hear them all you may consider a device
After long time of no use all the pots and switches may need a good cleaning (at least in the "form" of simply turning and switching them back and forward. not much cleaning there, but you may 'break through' that way.)
Assumming that the machine is all good with no deepper problems.

Talking

The 2340 is a great machine but that is one feature that sucks on it.
You just about need a mixer to monitor your stuff on it with headphones.
Since these machine where mainly made for quad recordings you would have thought they would have addressed that problem.
Just one suggestion make sure your tape hasnt gone bad and clog up your heads and transport with it. Old Ampex tape is the worst.

And now for Herms A-2340-sx sitting behind my left should as we speak.
Aint she grand?

Yep. That's it. Mine (um...err..My Dad's)....Mine, looks just like it. About six months ago I cleaned the pots, cleaned and demagged the heads. I don't think my father used it much. Maybe a hand full of times total...

I don't know if the SX model has this, but my 2340 has a 3 position switch next to the headphone jack that selects between front, front and back, and back. In the middle position, the headphones monitor all four channels. Great machine, btw.

I love the way that tape deck sounds. If you have a minty one you're lucky. I've got some good sounds out of those. If I had a host I'd put something up for you to hear.

Can I play too? Mine actually looks better in person. That scum on the steel faceplate cleans off. It's in excellent condition. One headphone jack, with switch. I also have a 3340 out in the garage. Maybe even 2 of them. It's been a while since I looked for them. I'm cleaning my garage out lately so I should get to them soon.

I told you so. I found about a half dozen other monster Teacs buried under some stuff. 2 tracks. God, that Teac stuff is sooo heavy. My back is killing me. I found 3 other 2 tracks that need work. Maybe only good for parts. Unfortunately they may end up at the dump because they are just too heavy to be fucking with.

Mostly 2 tracks from what I can see. I still need to clear out some room so I can see what the fuck they are. If they have parts that might fit the two 4 tracks, I may keep them for parts. I just don't know yet, but I will keep you in mind. Where do you live?
