Question about placement of my analog studio setup

Ok, Ok.... This might seem REEL dumb, but here goes....(I've always wondered about this) I have my studio desk setup with the mixer (Alesis Studion 24) in the middle and the right and left near field monitors (Alesis Monitor One's) at the far end of each side of the desk. For the Right and Left Stereo sound. Also, I have two Fostex R8 reel to reel machines and it would seem good for me to place each one one each side of the mixing board. Would the magnets from the monitors affect the tape on the reel to reel's? Also... While demagnetizing the heads on each machine... Should I take the machines into another room? It seems almost a bit silly but I guess I just don't know how this works. THANKS.

So long as your monitors are fully magnetically shielded, you shouldn't experience any issues with the speaker's magnets affecting your tape recorder's performance.

If they're not shielded, then you should keep them at least two feet away from the recorders and any tape.

As for demagnetizing, all of the equipment in the studio should be turned off when doing this procedure as the demag unit can produce a signal equivalent to 10,000 Vu and that would completely fry pretty much anything that had to pass that signal, if it were on. This means, the recorder, the mixer, the amp and speakers must be OFF.

Cheers!

Thanks Ghost

Hey, Thanks Ghost..... How could I find out if the monitors are sheilded? Maybe I'll try and find some specs online. Wow, It's amazing that little tiny demagnetizing wand could do that kind of damage! Thanks,
A

Yep, They're shielded!!! Thanks again, I'll make sure and turn everything off..
That would suck to lose all my gear!
