I am attracted to the VSR-880 at $800.

I currently own an 840ex (100mb) and would like to use the VSR-880 as just a rack mounted hard disk recorder. I am told it comes with a 6 gb hard drive capable of recording up to 2400 minutes...is this true? Do you have to partition the drive...?

Also, can I use the faders on my Mackie 1402 to control the input to the 880 or do I have to use the so-called mixer function on the 880?

What I really want is a hard disk based system with 8 in and 8 out that I can control from my Mackie...any thoughts?

I appreciate any help.

virtual.ray is on a distinguished road
The VSR has 8 analog inputs and outputs on RCA phono jacks so if you had the proper cables (RCA to 1/4" jack) you could work very easily with it and a Mackie mixer, plus there are a pair of inputs on the front which can be operated independantely of the 8 RCA's.I got mine about 6 weeks ago but I mostly use it with a Roland VM3100 digital mixer via R-Bus.This works well also.Mine came with a 3.2 gig drive which is partitioned into 3x1 gig + 200MB.
