C'mon what's wrong with me?!?!?!

http://shadow.crystalgnome.org/Re-Lapse-Chilled.mp3

here's a more chilled beat from me.. but yet it's not good enough...

Just throwin it up for progressions purpose, to see what I can make of it.

Not to mention I want some ideas thrown at me. Thanks in advance.

I don't want to offend you, but if you get some more unique samples, this would sound worlds better. The drums in particular need some juice, IMO.
You don't have to spend megabucks, either. An afternoon with a good drummer in a decent studio will give you more than you could use in a decade. And you don't need to worry about copyrights then, either.
You want that kick to pound good and hard...compression timed to pump with the beat will make this happen, but you'll have to spend quite a bit of time with whatever unit you use to get it just right. If you search compression on this forum, there are some great tips there for you.
Hope this helps you out...

Lapse, I gotta ask you man....are you using the pre-bundled sounds in FL? That could be some of the problem right there. Pre-bundled stuff is usually basic as hell. You usually either practice with it, or blend it in with other stuff you have outside the box. Here's my critique.

*The melody is too basic and not catchy. I've heard you do much better.
*There's nothing that makes this track shine at all.

(Do this for me, take everything out but the drums...you can just mute it and then repost just the drums, we'll start there)

Here's a tip, you might want to listen to other people's beats (not mainstream shit, but shit from other beat makers you like, maybe even some of the beat makers here in the forum). Learn to critique them. When you learn to critique other folks beats, it becomes easier to do your own and puts you ahead of where you are now.

I did this when I first started and it helped my beats out tremendously. I started catching on to stuff like mixing beats, making melodies, drum kit selections, layering and all kinds of shit.

Fiev.

Well, no offense taken, but I do have some other drum kits, I have _tons_ of different sounds that I can use in place of whats there. I'll work on it there.

Well, Alright. Here is the beat without the melody.

It isn't the greatest, I know. but I found the beat catchy so I kept it. But you asked, so you shall receive.

Throw some claps in there and take the reverse cymbal out. Then swap the woodblock with some snares. Make the bass hit a little harder than it is. The bass kicks sound too computer generated. Might want to play with those a little bit and distort them (just a little) before you swap the drum completely.
