Cool what type of cassette tapes for the Tascam 424?

Hiya, I was wondering what type of cassette tapes you guys are using these days with their Tascam 424 portastudios?

I was thinking of getting picking up those TDK SM60 Cassette http://www.musiciansfriend.com/produ...tte?sku=930861

or should I go with the TDK SA60's High Bias

or does it really matter, and will they both work just as well.

Some people will say to buy the most expensive tape; but I've tried several, long as they're hi-bias, they're OK. I have used the cheapies in an emergency, but don't do it all the time. TDK is fine.

SM is TDK's best, but someone here was saying they thought it was actually the same tape as SA just in a better housing. In any case, use type II (ie, high-bias) cassettes. I have a hunch the Portastudio came from the factory biased specifically for TDK SA or SM. I worked at TEAC in the early 1980's, before your model was out.

Hiya, thanks for the help guys. Ive been using the TDK SA60 high bias tape, like the one in the pic. But, it doesn't say Type II.

So, is High Bias, the same as Type II, . .?
