Vocal Reverb
Hi all..great forum, very helpful!
Looking for a good cheap solution for adding a healthy dose of reverb to my vocals. Think: Jim James/My Morning Jacket kinda sound. I was looking at the DigiTech DigiVerb Digital Reverb Pedal.. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/produ...dal?sku=150822 Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks all... |

Why not use a plug in?

For live use, recording, or both? The link you posted is a guitar reverb pedal - probably not ideal for vocals. If it's for recording, there are plenty of VST plugins that work well (SIR, GlaceVerb, and Ambience are all free & pretty good). Lots more options if you can drop some $$. For live/outboard use, it will all depend on how much you can spend.

Mainly for recording....
you'll have to forgive me, im just getting into computer recording, im a bit primitive when it comes to the terms and systems... A plugin, as I understand it, is an effect I can put on an already recorded track? Id prefer to hear the reverb in my headphones when im actually playing the music and singing the vocals... As for the pedal I linked, yeah, I knew it was primarily a guitar pedal but it mentions vocals in the description which is why I thought it might be suitable... Thanks all...

You're probably not gonna want to print the reverb on the vocal track, so a plugin can work - especially for reverb, as a very slight delay is ok (just adjust the predelay on the plug to taste). Otherwise, I suggest a Kurzweil Rumour. Great sound reverb for pretty darn cheap.
As far as the sample you listed, I am not familiar with it, but I'm gonna guess it's a Lexicon, and probably mixed with a second reverb.

I would not print a reverb on a vocal in tracking. I think just about the lowest cost hardware reverb I would use for a vocal is the Kurzweil Rumour. If I were looking at a plugin then I'd check out Reverence which is only around $40.
