Better quality with mutli-track?
Right now I record directly into my laptop. Someone told me if I get a mutli-track mixer it will improve my quality. They also said it was safer, cause laptops can crash, get viruses and all that. I get the safer thing, but will it really improve my quality?

Unless you're talking about a stand alone multitrack recorder. That can be more stable than a laptop. But it won't necessarily sound better. That depends on preamp and converter quality. |

If you're using the $1.95 built-in soundcard of the laptop... yah, that sucks.
But a proper external soundcard/interface will give you excellent quality. Once sound is converted to digital, how its stored is irrelevant.... |

Also, you don't have to worry about viruses if you keep your recording computer off the internet and secured properly in a home network envirinment.
