Tascam Porta Two

I recently aquired a Tascam Porta Two. Its a 4 track from the 80s (Its black, NOT the modern blue one)

When I turn it on it has its own type of hiss without playing anything yet, is this normal? Everything else works fine, but theres this extra hiss that bothers me.
