Neve 1272

so, this is really a line amp I believe. Convereted to mic pre. I guessing the only difference is the add connections and db controls? Or am I way off. Anyone used one? How do they sound?

Ive got one that was racked up. A so-so job. Sounds nice though. I'm in the process of re-racking it in a better enclosure. I may change the controls around as well. It is a bit "thicker" than some of my other pres. Another color on the palette. Obviously not the same as a 1073, but interesting and different enough from my APIs, Millennias and other pres to be useful. If you are looking at one, I'd say be careful about how it is racked up and the power supply. Make sure that the right transformers are used. A lot of these 1272 rack units appear to be pieced together.

I have a vintech 1272 so not exactly the same thing but I have looked at racking up the real deal. I would love to make a rack with those modules and some telefunkens in the same rack. Anywayz, I think that the biggest changes when modding for mic signal instead of line signal would be the impedance it is looking for and the amount of gain. the amount of gain is likely set by a resistor somewhere and same for the impedance, although that might require a different input transformer. just guessing here but there are lots of resources on the net if you just look around.
