Yellow Ledbetter

Anyone know what kind of guitar/amp/effects (if any) were used on the rhythm/clean guitar in Pearl Jam's Yellow Ledbetter? That's the kind of clean tone I'm going for.

I'm looking to get a new amp soon and want to get one that can provide a clean tone like that. I don't care about distortion.

Lemme see if I can dig anything up....it IS a strat, I think Mike uses a '58 for alot of his stuff. Here we go....Fender and a start, I do think it's just Mike doing his best 'Little Wing' impression! Lovely song.

Savage Audio

I'm not sure of the exact amp used to record the song but I know they're big supporters of Savage Audio amps. They're made in Savage, MN by a guy named Mike Krum. (I think that’s how he spells it)

I've had the pleasure of visiting his shop a few times and getting to meet him. He is the nicest guy and is amps are beyond reproach. The clean tones are glassy and swirly, and the overdriven tone is thick and ballsy. I think the glas30 would get you right into the Yellow Leadbetter tone.

Thanks, TelePaul. Last time I checked guitar geeks' website (which was awhile ago, I completely forgot about it) they didn't have his setup listed.

Thanks tubby. I checked out the Savage Glas 30 here:

$3,000 seems a little steep, but I'm sure it's worth it. I won't have that kind of money to spend on an amp for awhile...is there perhaps anything within $1000 that can give me a clean tone similar to that?

I was thinking of the Blues Jr. but I don't have any experience with it (or any good amps). I'll have to go try a bunch out I know, but I'm just getting some suggestions on what amps to try out while I'm there.

Thanks for the help so far.

A Blues Jr. doesn't do that type of sound (or any other good sound imo).

You can get a chimey clean that breaks up a bit out of a lot of different amps I'm sure. I bet you would like a a tweed deluxe style amp. You should be able to find that type of amp from an amp builder within your budget.

Mike now uses amps made by Sal Trentino. Not available for sale. He runs them through 59 Bassmans acting as cabs.

Definetely a Stratocaster with the neck pickup selected. I've been able to mimic the sound pretty accurately on the clean channel of my early/mid-90s Crate Vintage Club 30 (yeah yeah, I know it's a Crate, but it's all tube and everyone I've talked to about it said that it's probably the best sounding Crate they've ever heard) on about 5 or 6 so it starts to get chewy-sounding, and the amp's reverb dialed up a little.

I haven't listened to that song in a few years, so I forget if there's any kind of modulation going on like a leslie-sim or anything.
