Fostex MR16HD/CD/Multitrack

I'm new to Multitrack hardware recorders, so please excuse my 'lack of' knowledge on the subject if I sound very inexperienced in using them (technically I am)

So here's the deal. I'm part of a keyboard/synth only group/band (if you want to call it that) and need some kind of hardware unit to take around recording at various locations. I have a good DAW Computer here at home, but don't want to lug all that around if you know what I mean - it just gets a nightmare.

I'm after a unit that can record our productions to hard disc and even burn to cd (so I'm looking at the Fostex MR16HD/CD) since it seems to fit my price budget.

What is confusing me however is if the inputs are only mono? (here's the part where I lack knowledge) I need at least 4 synthesizers connected in stereo - and am not sure if this machine provides stereo inputs? you can mix down to stereo for sure, but would each input only route to 1 speaker (mono)? - seems kinda pointless using two channels for left&right stereo - thats a waste of channels.

I would hope that each (phono/TRS) like input on the machine routes to stereo aswell (seems we have no guitars or bass/drumkits etc) it's pure synthesis. Other wise thats using 4 channels just for 2 stereo tracks (what a waste).

Other than the input/stereo issues and getting at least 4 synths connected to the unit, thats my problem. I wish multitracks were designed as single (and switchable stereo tracks aswell) - so you could either select from mono/stereo per track instead of running 2 mono's for 1 stereo.

Hope you can advise...

Arrow The MR16HD records up to 4 (mono) tracks simultaneously.

Given your requirements, you'd be better off looking at recorders that record up to 8 tracks simultanously,... (VF160EX, BR1600, 2488, AW16G).

Crikey, maybe your right

I've never been involved with MTR's before, so it's my least knowledgeable subject. I'm guessing they are high end unit's though

$$$$ is the problem unless I get lucky ha ha

I'll look into those aswell though, cheers for the advice!
