What am I doing wrong?

I'm using Cubase SX3 at home, monitoring on home hi-fi and headphones for now.

All my mixes sound fine in Cubase then when i mix them to mp3 they sound really bassy and muffled, can anyone help?

I notice degradation sometimes going from different "sound players" to.

Windows player, for example, doesn't seem as clean as Soundclick imo.
(bit the WP does have the phsyedilic show to stare at and go into a trance..an... uh... trance... yea...

Your monitoring system is lying to you. You need proper monitors and room treatment above all else.

Your current monitoring options are less than ideal, so your mix is probably not how you want it to sound before you even export to MP3 (even though it may sound ok on your hi-fi's and headphones). Invest in some good monitors and learn them.

Sometimes I swear that my mixdowns have a different sounding low end even with high bitrate mp3 or waves....... Haven't noticed it as much in a while, but I swear it used to happen all the time.
