Tascam 414 Portastudio

I just purchased a Tascam 414 portastudio 4 track recorder. After expirementing with it a bit, using a mic, I found that the tape is recording on highspeed, but playback is very very slow. The pitch knob is set at zero, however I did try a few different settings just to see if it made a difference. I could not tell much if any with any setting. Any help on the setup?

Thanks for the tip, however I did print off the whole manual, and It did not go into much detail on the pitch knob and how to troublshoot if a problem exists.

hi, i got one of these machines with the opposite problem.it played back too fast. if you open it up theres a small white dial beside the pitch control.this can change the playback speed also.could help.if not there is a bunch of resistors. i found that if i bypassed one using a small piece of wire the problem was fixed

Tape speed has been a problem since they invented cassettes! Hopefully you didn't spend much on the 414!
