half inputs

Ive been looking around for a new mixer but confused and put off by these mixers that have 12 input but are halved Ive been looking at a Yamaha mixer but Im wondering can i have 8 mics going like 6 xlr-xlr leads then just 2 xlr - 1/4 in the 9 and 11 inputs?

Not without some kind of external mic preamps. The unit you have there only has 6 mic preamps, you can input additional mics if say you bought a stereo or two mono pres to bring you up to a full 8 mics usable.
