I will be recording a demo soon for a rock band, style The Who etc... The recordings will be made life,no isolated rooms, for drums, guitar and bass at once. The rest will be overdubbed.
I will have a whole set of dynamic mics available, and one AKG3000C. So which instrument/part do I use it for? Other tips for doing this? There will be alot of crosstalk from the guitars and bass on the drum mics... Thanks. |

Put your dynamic mics on the guitar cabs (bass try going direct to tape), kick, snare and toms and use the C-3000 as a mono drum overhead. When you do your overdubs, use the C-3000 for youur vocals.

Cool, that's about what I planned to do.
Now, where do you position it best for mono overhead? Is this above the drummers head? And some more detailed questions. I've got 8 simultanious rec tracks. Two for guitars (2 amps...), one for bass, this leaves 5 for drums. One kick, one snare, one overhead. Two left. We still have 1 or 2 toms, floor-tom and hihat... One could cover the toms, one for floor tom... Hmmm... I could however make a sub-mix with my (behringer) MX1204 mixer. We hire the mics, so the number of dynamics doesn't matter. Is this a good idea? Toms in the submix? Better not use EQ in this, right? |
