Cool

Ive got limited space so I'm doing what I can as far as feed back reduction is concerned but I have heard that when installing the window between the controllroom and the performance area the window must be installed on a slant. my questions are #1)Is it neccesary to slant the window?
#2)if so what angle should it be set at?
#3)Pointing up-down or to either side?

You only need slant the window if you are using TWO panes of glass.

cheers

Cool Regarding the window

yes I do have more than one pain of glass I actualy have seven pains to give me six sealed cavities within the eighteen inch span through the double wall between the performance room and the controll room. So what angle do I have to place the pains of glass at and in which direction?

The idea is to make sure none of the panes of glass are parallel but may I ask why 6? three is most I've seen and two is normally adequate. The panes should also be of differing thickness like 3/8" and 1/2". One pane is attached to one wall structure the other to the other wall structure.

What dio you intend to record - a nuclear explosion???

cheers

Cool A Nuclear explosion eh?????

O.K. I guessI was going a little over kill. By the way thanx for thegreat illustration!! Got my brain juices goin. If I go with three pains and attatch one to each of the walls seperatly does it matter which side the center pain is attatched to? Performance side or controll side? And do I need to create a vacume in between the pains of glass ? Why different thickness on the pains of glass?

Yeah attach to either frame. The differing thickness stops them from resonating in sympathy with each other, if you are using three put the heavier glass on the outside and the thinner one in between.

no you don't need a vacume (how do you spell it??) but you do need to put silica gel crystals in the air space to absorb any humidity otherwise the glass will fog up. we just sprinkle it around before we put the lining in. We got ours from a drug store, they use it for storing pills etc.

Thumbs up

Thanx again john. Sorry about the double message I guess I'm a little impatient when it comes to this messaging thing. I'm now wondering if there is a minimum thickness in which the glass is aloud to be before becoming to brittle, Cause ive got as thin as one eighth up to three eights. And while were on the topic do the glass pains have to be different thickneses for both sides of the controll room since I'll be having the one controll room operating the two performance rooms?

BillyJack put your heaviest glass on the control room side. As for the thickness I'd put 3/8" on the outsides with a 1/8" in the middle so that's a 3/8" in the control room anyway.

cheers

Cool Now the rest?

Thanx alot John. You have been most enlightening. Now all
the boyz from(TOUGH ROCK)my current project are arguing with me about the walls round here. Me and my partner in crime Screamin Eddie Stripe have discussed having no corners in our studio but cannot agree on how this is to be done. I believe that there should be a solid frame in permanent contact with the drywall throughout all curves. Where as my counterpart believes that since we are skinning everything with quarter inch fireboard(due to the cost of our supply) we should not have to build a stud wall through the curves but rather bridge across all existing ninety degree corners with this extremely flexible fireboard thus causing a dead air space behind it which is virtually impossible to access in order to insulate said area. how would you tackle this particular predicament????
