KRK dust cap

just putting this here for future searches.
KRK RP6's came with a dimpled dust cap. no big deal...er...so I thought......
Turns out the plastic dust caps is very firm on the KRK's.

after several types of tapes, I had to increase the artillery and plugged in the Vacuum Cleaner!!Still several attempts spread over several days proved fruitless.I kept toying with different types of tape, but nothing works on these little stiff plastic guys? Damn I thought!! wht the fhk?

Quiet babbling, you say.....What worked? get to the frkn point?

HEAT from a Hair Dryer and some of that tan-standard masking tape. The KRK plastic caps loved the heat and within seconds, and three gentle effortless dimple pulls later...ahhh the thrill of speaker success.

ideas read online...
tape pulls, vacuum cleaner sucks, poking and pulling needle holes, super glue blobs, hot-glue gun gobs...or just removing it with a razor and ordering a new dust cap kit kosting kash$.

All wrong... if its plastic, try the HOT Hand Held Hairdryer Heating of the hermetically housed hyrdocarbon hub, hopefully, happiness, happens however hesitate hurrying.

I found that removing the speaker and (I am not kidding) blowing into the vented piece of the magnet assembly (like blowing up a balloon) works well.

Ready to get flamed, but I needed to pass on this good piece of info.

great free advice.

I've done many dimpled cones, as most gearheads have, but usually a little tape is all thats needed....but these KRK's had damn sturdy/thick plastic.
and monitors not having grille's, i just couldn't leave the dented dust cap..er..dented.

So did you use a straw?
Whats the vented part of the magnet assembly,or how'd you access it?

No straw, on the speakers I had at the time (either Behringer Truths or KRK v8's, I don't remember) the center back of the speaker had a vent, just a hole that allowed the air to pass that way when the speaker moved. Popped right out with some force, but tape wouldn't do it for me. Also I heard while I was searching that often times a vacuum will pull out the cap, but I was a little hesitant of this.

I tried the vacuum but it requires a very good seal to work, and in my case the deformed dimple-dented dust cap didn't allow a good seal.
it just sucked air, doing nothing.

i was a bit worried too, that if the vacuum took hold it could pull the entire cone, over extend the cone making a small problem a big one.

the hair dryer, heat, was very easy and doesn't physically touch the speaker.

the yorks have cloth which is better for dimples but as keeping dust from the coil?my yamaha's have a coated cloth, like tar paste....

I kind of like KRK's solid dust-caps. There's no dust getting thru plastic, but not good for dimples....
