Which way is she facing? from Ethens acoustics
I'm sure most are familiar w/ Ethens acoustics page... here is a excerpt that I'm questioning.
"And even in smaller rooms a hard floor with one or more bare walls can be useful. My cello teacher, who is a total audio neophyte, blew me away with the quality of a recording she made in her small Manhattan apartment. She recorded while playing with her back against the corner, facing into the room, using an inexpensive stereo mike placed a few feet in front of her cello." Does she A.) Have her back against a reflective surface playing out to a wall that is Non-reflective. or B.) Have her back against a Non-Reflective surface. C.) Or am I missing the point entirely? Thanks, B. |

![]() I'm kidding. Seriously, the point was more that a reflective surface behind helped propel the sound out into the room. I'm sure the corner behind her was a factor too. Not to mention her exquisite cello technique! This probably falls under the heading, "In a performance space, some early reflections can be useful." --Ethan
