Another treatment question...behind the mix position?
I am getting ready to hang the last few pieces of Auralex behind the mix position, but am curious as to the sf that is recommended. Do you think more is better, or I still want some reflections? I have two MiniTraps (by The Man's company, Ethan Winer's RealTraps) in the corners, and have (3) 2'x4' pieces of Auralex 'Metro' left. Right now, I'm thinking of joining the three to give a 4'x6' absorption 'panel' behind the board (monitors), and the traps are halfway up straddling the corners. Too much of an area for absorption behind the board, not enough, or OK to proceed. Any thoughts?
p.s.-I'm planning diffusions on the back wall, even though it is a short room. I think this will work well with the future (2) traps that will go in those corners and the 'striped' pattern down the axis. Any advice is welcomed. ![]()

Seker of Rock, my old buddy, my old pal...
I believe several people who frequent this forum have recommended absorption behind the mixing position. I don't know that any specific dimensions were given, and I would honestly guess it would depend on the distance from the wall, how big the room is, and what type of monitoring system you are running, but for a pair of Mackie 824s I would guess a 4'x6 absorption area is not bad, as long as you have good bass traps on the corners. Thanks as always, SOR ![]()

Search around for the setup using a mirror. I can't remember exactly how it goes. IIRC you try to line up the cone of your speaker with the mirror on the opposite wall; if not that than it could be focus the mirror back to your listening position.
This method may be for diffusion, so check around on google or Ethen's or Sayers' website. |

I ended up going with what adds up to a 4'x6' area behind the board, same distance from the ceiling as the MiniTraps.

![]() You didn't say how far behind you that wall is, and that's a factor too. If the wall is close - less than 6 to 10 feet - you want as much absorption as possible. --Ethan

Agreed. You'd be better off in a small room with some thick absorbtion on the back wall to assist in killing the null that usually exists in most room based on the distance from the wall to the chair.

Well, that and a yearly physical, restless sleeping habits, high blood pressure, all the fun things that come with being four decades old. My ears will be about 3' to 3.5' feet from the wall, about 1/3 of the way down the long axis of the room.
