Not posting?

Ok, this is my third attempt at a post, I hope this one works because I'm tired of posting the same thing over and over, I keep forgetting to copy and paste what I've written before I post it. Anyways to the point, I'm back. Do I look familiar? Probably not, I was here previously under the alias DjIce, but I decided to actually give myself an alias that was worthy. Re-Lapse, is now my new alias, I'm not a producer anymore because I can't figure things out yet, so I went to being an Emcee, because I can write a hell of alot better than I could ever produce a beat.

I'm not the greatest, nor will I ever be. I'm 17 years old, I live in the biggest city in Montana(Billings). I plan to move to Burnsville, Minnesota, in a few months. (June, to be exact).. So I want to make some new friends there, if at all possible. But yeah, I sucked, incredibly bad, before (Under the previous alias).. But, I'm back to say, I'm 100% sure, that I've improved. Am I worthy of a contract? No, am I worthy of selling my songs? Not even close. But I am worthy of a listen, I do know that. http://www.myspace.com/strictproductions has a few of my songs on there, 4 to be precise. They are VERY terrible recordings, because I used a $5.00 microphone, and didn't know what I was doing, when i recorded them. I have advanced, since then. I plan to re-record all of my songs, since I just recently purchased a condenser microphone for my Laptop. But, why am I posting this then, if it's a mere welcome back I'm awaiting? Nah, I want opinions, before I record the new songs and release my album by June. I want Tips, Hints, Tricks, etc. All that I can get, before I finalize the album. I have all the songs written up, I'm looking for exclusive rights to some beats for a reasonable price.

So, as I've said 3 times, but it won't post for me, hopefully this one will, Please, Comment, All are welcome, bad, Good, true and false. I need all that I can get, for encouragement, and inspiration.

P.S. The link in my signature states my website, it's never updated, because I haven't had time lately, but I will soon do weekly updates on it, with new songs, and everything else I can. Oh, and if you have some "eminem" type beats, hit me up, I'm looking for a few of those.

P.P.S, I sure hope this doesn't post like 4 times. I apologize in advance, if it does.

Well, I can see you want to get better. It's good to set goals, especially achievable ones. You can definitely get better, because right now... You're not good at all.

Regardless of the quality of the recordings, what I listened to didn't sound good in terms of lyrics, rhyme scheme, or flow. You need to put in some serious work before you even begin to think about releasing an album. You're on the right path, but you have a TON to learn before you'll be ready to record an album.

Stick around, ask questions, learn from the wealth of knowledge here, and don't get discouraged. You can (and will) get better.

glad too see someone new come around who's genuinely looking for help and advice. welcome to the forums, bro.

unfortunately, myspace was being, well... normal, and not loading your songs, so i can't comment on the music yet. i trust Change, he's got a big ear for music. but just one big ear, so his head's a little lopsided-looking, but we love him for that. honestly - he knows what he's talking about.

if you really have the passion your posts puts forth, you'll definitely get better faster than you might think. don't rush an album just to do an album. wait until the time is RIGHT. patience is a virtue. stick around. you'll learn a ton. i think everyone here has a homerecordingBBS testimony, lol.

peace.

I was there before so it's nothing that can't be fixed. So yeah keep at it. And check me out @ www.soundclick.com/daddijonez and let me know what you think!

Incredible.

Well, I'll start this off by saying. "I knew my friends were lieing!" They said that I should do a CD, only because I could write. But, I knew the fact wasn't true, I listen to myself and I like what I hear...I do realize the monotone, which I'm working on as well. I LOVED the criticism. Why do I love harsh criticism? Because it gets me going, and it makes me put forth more effort than I would have, without it. These comments alone, will make me improve so incredibly much that you're going to NOTICE. I will read a lot, and stick around fairly often. You're also going to hear alot of my songs progress from "shit" to "hits". Sure, they'll be "hsit" and "hist" but by the time I'm done, they'll be hits! (Terrible joke, I know some will get it though!) Never the less, I'm going to go look through my lyrics and see what I can do different. But, if you have any advice as to what I should REALLY improve on first, let me know. Also, I have troubles writing chorus lines, because I can't sing, so I can't have a chorus line sung, at any expense, or it ruins the whole song. So, again. Any advice is welcome, and actually needed at this point, I didn't realize how terrible I was. I apologize for hurting your ears, but thanks for listening anyway, . Also, did you check out all four songs, or just one and call it a day? Because I know all 4 aren't 'that' terrible.....................................................are they?

I myself, have not listened to any of the tracks, but will do so tonight when I get off at the studio. From what the posters are saying, is that you need to work on the lyrics, vocals, delivery itself before you should actually worry about mixing, tracking, mastering etc... So my suggestion to you is just the same as anyone else's, keep up the hard work, and work on your actual talent before we get into mixing. Once you got the music down, a great mix will bring you out even more.

Your tracks aren't terrible. I've heard much worse. But, none of the tracks are good, either. So, take some pride in knowing you are far from being the worst emcee, but know you're nowhere close to being called a good emcee either. Feel me?

The biggest issue I can hear, is your flow. Your cadence, your rhythym, it's not on point. It needs to be spot on, and it's not. So work on riding the beat, focus on the kick and snare. Make sure your timing is perfect. Also, it's obvious you're reading your material when recording. That's fine, if you can pull it off... However, you can't pull it off. So learn your lyrics before you record. That way, you can get more comfortable when recording.

The next biggest issue to me, is your mic presence. You're very timid, or you sound like you don't want to get yelled at for "playing that rap crap" on the computer again. Have some pride in what you wrote, and deliver it with confidence. If you don't spit it with pride, no one else will believe what you're spitting. Simply put, if they can't feel you, they won't feel you.

Work on those two things before anything else. Writing is easy, but it's worthless if you can't conquer those two areas.

I appreciate all of your criticism, some took a little bit to comprehend, in other words it hurt. But, I realize that it's true, I'm not the best Emcee and I'm not the worst. I'm far from the best, but I'm close to the worst. But, this has not discouraged me, I understand 100% what you're saying, advice is incredible.

You are correct, I do read my lyrics because of the fact that I get so ansy of how good the song turned out, and I try to get the song up and going as soon as possible, so that's why I sound so monotone, but on the songs that aren't up there and that I memorized the lyrics, I sound so much more outgoing and hype. So, i will take your advice and memorize the lyrics before trying to work with it. About the flow, I guess i never really noticed it, on a lot of it I messed up because again, I didn't memorize the material, but I didn't realize my flow was 'off key'. I'll have to listen, and try and fix that as well. I appreciate everything you've said so far, it's really helped me although I haven't put it into perspective, quite yet. I have one question though, 1. Do I have any potential whatsoever?

Also, most recording artists don't record their song one time and call it good, it takes trial and error to get it perfect, correct? Because, I have memorized a few songs, but it took me a little while to get it down perfect, and be able to spit it clean.. You'd have died laughing, had you heard my first recording of those. But, never the less, please, more information, comments, criticism and answers to my questions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance...

P.S. - I'll show you a beat that I produced, eventually. (That's a whole nother level.

P.P.S.- Any software recommendations are welcome, I currently use Fruity Loops v6 XXL, but I can't figure out Propellerheads Reason 3.0 quite yet, I'm working on it though. Any advice would be nice! Thanks again...

I hear ya brotha, That is a huge difference. You have improved alot. I'll show you two of my beats, to show you my improvements (what little improvements they are).

(| AFTER |)

Not a huge difference, they aren't very far apart in creation, this one though, was one of my oldest creations available at the time... I created it with a demo of Fruity Loops

http://shadow.crystalgnome.org/DjIce-BombDiggidy_2.mp3

Although, none of them are worthy of anything. I decided I'd show them anyway, any comments are welcome. Never the less, mad props to everyone here with talent..I wish I did...

Ps, all the beats are PURE software, no hardware involved.
