Need Intonation Help

I have a Ibanez Artcore hollow body and am having trouble with tuning/intonation issues. I have found that the problem is in the 3 hight strings with the high E being the worst. They are in tune in the open position but sound pretty off in the 12th fret. They have a dead, ping like sound and also are showing to be pretty flat on my tuner. The difference in bridge height from the low E to the high E is pretty noticeable too. Should there be a big difference there?? What can i do to try to get a better intonation?? Thanks

I'm no expert, but sounds like your bridge has peen set up weirdly.. Did just get that guitar?.. has someone adjusted the bridge?..

Have it set up by a shop, that's the easiest solution.


I had a talk about intonation of my bass with some elderly geezer, about a proper tuning-meter to set up intonation, and he said that you don't need one!?
Said he can show me how it's done with harmonics!.. Gotta check out that..

i've actually had it for over a year now. It sounded pretty good right out the box when i first got it. It might be that it has just gotten totally out of whack with time and all the playing? ijust started noticing the problem a few months ago

The dead ping sound is the key diagnostic feature for the string making contact with a fret higher than the fret that you are putting pressure on. At best this could mean that the bridge saddles are adjusted too low. At worst, it means that your neck needs to be reset.

good tip. I checked and it looks like the 3 high strings, especially the high E are touching the the frets from about the ninth fret on, and pretty noticeable. Though the low strings look like they touch too, its not as bad. I will try to raise the high string side of the bridge, as i mentioned that it seems very low compared to the low string side of the bridge. I know there should be a difference but probably not like mine

In all likelyhood, your top has sunk a bit with the heating season. Pretty typical. You would be well advised to make yourself a soap dish humidifier for your guitar.
