I have a box of Auralex and two RealTraps (Ethan Winer) to start...how should I place

I have a box of Auralex 'metro' 2'x4' panels (12) and (2) MiniTraps (I'm sure everyone knows, but just in case there are some newbies, Ethan Winer's affiliated company, 2'X4' rigid fiberglass panels). My tracking/control combination room is 12'x13'-6". Currently I plan on diffusive panels on the back wall, NEW foam or panels behind the board/monitors (front wall), a cloud over mixing position, and to use the Auralex (one 2'x4' panel every 2' on center to 'stripe' the side walls). Ethan mentioned in an article awhile back that that configuration, and the 'checkerboard', were his recommendations for sides. Any last-minute disagreeances or alternate suggestions, or is it time to start hanging?

Guess I forgot to mention the ceiling...7'-9" at the start (almost 8' ) and 10' at the peak...a pitched ceiling (obviously I know) running lengthwise along the 13'-6" axis. I don't have a 90 degree situation where the walls meet the ceiling on my long (mixing) axis of the room, but still curious as to whether Ethan's "striped" theory on the walls makes sense. I'm not doubting Ethan by any means, just prolonging what I need to do tonight, I guess. I am such a procrastinator

Time to get to work.

Look at me, talkin' to myself and all....well, I found the answer to one of my questions, and maybe this will save someone time if they do a search for two bass traps and where to place them. From the manufacturer's website, they recommend at the front left and right corners (well, they recommend wherever bass buildup is a problem and that could not be more practically true, but if all you have to start with is two, then...).

I'm sold hook, line, and sinker on RealTraps so far (even though my best friend works at Auralex ). Time to start hanging the RealTraps by where the board will be.

Hey Seeker, how's a going? Thought I'd chat wit ya since no one else is. Hey, how's that room treatment of the new studio coming along, btw

Hey man, good to hear from you SOR. Long time, no talk. Well, I gots to tell ya....
I've spent the last several hours moving equipment out to the new room and more importantly, installing the treatment I've accumulated in the last few months in anticipation of getting the room up and running. I have two MiniTraps (Ethan Winer's product) and one side wall treated with Auralex 'Metro' foam. So I'm not even done installing the other side of the room (which I have the materials for), and I will testify that it is not bullshit. No music tests yet (still moving in) but when I shouted or moved something before the partial treatment, it sounded like walking into an empty room in a new house...you know the sound. Now it sounds "controlled", for lack of a better word. The room acoustics by installing only half of what I plan (two more traps and diffusion on the back wall) have COMPLETELY changed the sound of the room. If you are thinking about treating your space, I can honestly testify that it is not BS...you WILL hear night and day acoustically. I have the foam on velcro and the MiniTraps on standard issue hangers (like a big picture), so once I get things hooked up I may record a quick A/B of something simple and post it, just so people can hear the difference treating a room makes.

Later you cool cat.

Just curious, what are you doing about the ceiling? Leaving it? Clouds?

Playing it by ear, no pun intended. From layouts I've read, it is recommended to treat over the engineer's position, but I'm going to do it as it is needed at this point. If treatment is needed, I will probably start with a cloud over the mix position and go from there. The Hushboard I used against the rafters (and just just beneath the thin 3/16" stained wood inner ceiling sheets) may help to absorb something, but I'm not sure.

Still waiting on MiniTraps 'seconds' to happen in 'wheat' color, and I hung some 4" pyramids from one of the cheap foam manufacturers on the back wall I need to photo still. This shot shows the MiniTraps, Auralex behind mix position, and one of the floor to ceiling 2' Auralex "stripes" on the side walls. I'll get some more of the back and sides once the final 2 MiniTraps are in.

We're doing a big show this weekend, so we should have a dozen or so next week. Are you on my "Seconds" list to notify? If not, send me an email and tell me how many you want. They will probably go pretty fast.

I've been on your list since February or so, I believe. I'll shoot you another e-mail.

Seeker, the room looks great. Is this the Auralex you used?

Yeah, sorry about that. We get what we get. In this case all of the MiniTraps made it back in perfect condition. As I mentioned in my email to you, we have a bunch of MondoTrap seconds, and some RFZ panels, but that's it for now. Sorry!
