Get Analog 16 out to Firewire?

How could I get the direct outs of a (16 Channel Alesis) mixer to a firewire port on a laptop? I'm trying to determine my options before laying down a bunch of cash on a new mixer/interface.

There are alot of options out there but for me I have the Firestudio and a Digimax FS for 16 ins and can expand to 26 if need be.

So do you send 8 Channels from the ADAT out on the DS to the Firestudio, then the total 16 channels through the firewire to the computer? I really don't know if I'll need 16 channels all at once to the computer but 8 might not be enough to record a whole band at once (Guitar/Bass/Drums/Vocals).
