Looking to buy new or used acoustic, Maybe a Jumbo or larger bodied Guild or Gretsch $500-$1000 This would be used for studio recording. Any reasons to avoid these brands
etc....

If you're looking at Guild, go for something new or very recent; post - Fender purchase, or else a significantly older instrument. The years just prior to the Fender purchase were tough on the company; in and out of bankruptcy and so forth. They had some QC problems arising out of a lack of cash, and those instruments might warrant close scrutiny.

When Fender bought the company, it had the sense to feed the patient some red blood and stand back. The stuff Guild is building these days is arguably the best quality ever, and the prices are comparably low.

I'm not up on Gretsch; the models I've seen appear to be imports.

This forum has a couple of extensive threads on acoustic guitars, complete with massive linking. Do a search on "guitar" or "$2500" and you should find them.

Here's one.
