Question

I'm 15 (actually it's me and my 13 year old brother) with a studio and we recently earned $300. What the heck should we spend it on?
I have:
TM-D1000 mixer
Mackie 1202 VLZ pro mixer
PCI-822 TDIF card
Event PS-6 monitors
Shure KSM32 condenser
4 SM57's
Rode NT3
(We know we're VERY lucky)
We've been thinking about getting any of these:
another NT3 and some extra cables/stands ~ $250
AT4000B (I need another overhead mic) and Beta 52 - $250
Joe Meek Pre-amp - $300
AT4033 - $289
Rode NT2 - $330
Line 6 POD - $329

Thanks in advance,
The Slicks (yes that is our real last name)

give it to me! I have $6.52 to my name so any donations would be nice. If you want another overhead then go for the nt3 because you really don't want to mix and match overheads. Best bet though is find out what the weakest link in you rig is and upgrade.

Get a big bag of weed and a fat ugly hooker...
Or just get a really big bag of weed

Get what you need.If you need it youll know it.

For instance, if you need a mic get the at4033
if you need a pre get the meek
if you want a guitar tool get the pod.

But at your age what you really need is a hooker.
A big fat ugly assed hooker. And also, you need a big bag o' weed.then you'll be "down".

nothing.

you've got tons of great gear. the only thing holding you back is what you are recording. Stick that money in a bank (not even for interest, jsut to get it out of sight), or in a box and dont spend it. I will wager that in 12~18 months, $300 will become a lot more worth it then it is now.

Slicks-

Make sure you have good instruments covered first. Guitars, drums, keyboards, etc. What goes into the recorder usually comes out of your monitors.

I'm a fan of owning at least one tube preamp. Digital recordings can be pretty "clean" sounding" and a tube pre can make things sound less clean, some say add warmth. PreSonus BlueTube, ART Tube MP, and the dbx 386 are all great pre's for amateur recordings.

Now, that advice will cost you $250, please make the check out to Wide Awake. Now you only have $50 left. Sorry dudes, that won't buy much.

If you must spend the money I would follow Wide Awake's suggestion, I would also like to get a pre-am but don't have the money.

One more thing, I won't charge you for my info, so you can spend the whole wad. Just think about my saddened heart each and every time you plug it in.

Peace, Joe
