What should I do with this room?
Ok, well, this is my tracking/recording room. Also known as my bedroom. Considering my gear that I've upgraded to over time, this looks like it's possibly what needs to be improved next. The stuff I want to do to it I want to be something I can take with me for when I'm out of here in a couple years. I've got just about up to $400 to spend, and I'd like to make it as DIY as possible, seeing as I'm pretty good at building stuff on my own. Anyways, I have really low ceilings, and my floor is cement with carpet, I don't think there's any padding underneath (not sure how much of an effect that has), and the door on the left side is a glass sliding door. The baby blue spot is my Casio WK-3000 keyboard. The big yellow area is my big desk that's built into the wall. Underneath I have my computer tower, some random crap, and my rack, while on top I've got my two monitors (brown spots) and my computer screen/keyboard/mixing board (black spot). I've got a stack of records on the right of my right monitor, and some shelves above them abuot 2 feet, and a big panel of sound foam my uncle made a while ago for something that's behind my computer screen and fits right between the monitors. Anyways, what do you guys recommend that I should do?

You don't really have much room to work with according to that picture.
Too bad the desk is attached to the wall. It really should be centered and pulled away from the wall some. Best thing to do, I guess, would be to move your stuff more toward the right side of the desk. Then make some broadband absorbers out of some rigid fiberglass. There are tons of pictorials out there that show how to make broadband absorbers. Here's a link to a place that sells rigid fiberglass (OC 703). ATS Acoustics That should get you started.

I think I'm going to go do that. And it turns out my uncle might have a bunch of fiberglass sheets around 4 inches thick that I could use, becaus ehe was planning on doing the same but never got around to it. Anyways, I was considering placing them like this. The green blocks are the panels. Opinions? edit: also, the walls on the other side of the room are cement after the sheetrock, so it's pretty well insulated.. |

You should also straddle the corners with some. And put some on the back wall where sound will reflect.
And clouds if you can do it.

Cut the 90 degree corners down to 45 degrees by putting fiberglass across the corners.

I would, but it's kind of hard to do so because i have shelves about 2 feet above the monitors, so I'm trying to work around them. |

So make shorter panels and just set the panels on the desk in the corner.
Or take the shelving out... ![]()

I need MORE shelving, nevermind taking out what I have. Maybe I"ll make shorter panels, but I don't want to have to cut the fiberglass and stuff. ![]() |
