Honestly, a deal.

If my time was focussed 100% on making music, and not the "business" side of the industry, I would be churning out better, and more frequent work.

The 1 basic thing I need is $1,000,000 dollars....

Seriously though.

I could change that to 100,000,000 in a blink of an eye.

Even though 1 million isn't much these days..

I could release 1 major record in stores across America with ease.
I'll be able to drop artists like Jadakiss, Nas, Ludacris, The Game, etc on the same album, basically buying platinum

Of course, then, that would bring in the rest of the money I need to do whatever with, release multiple albums, music video's, hell even sport teams

I could do it with $250,000 dollars, but it would take a little bit longer. I would then have to do Region by region.

Other than that, for me to move onto the next level....

hmmm..

The combination of these:

a fully pimped out car with a whole lot of advertisements on it.
5-10k manufactured albums of my hottest artist
a very dedicated street team
and a bunch of posters, flyers etc.

Basically I just gotta wait till I receive my check, and it's on.

Needs for "the next level":

~ money or knowledge of mastering albums - this way i would have all the elements of putting together an album.

~ exposure/flyers/marketing & promotion/shows - if i could get my name out and build a real fan base, then rest will follow. i have shows few and far between, and that's really a big necessary step.

~ support from my own church. sounds funny, but i can get people that want me to perform practically anywhere else than my home church. some people have bought my cd from my church, and others are excited to find out more about me and my music as a ministry... but those same people could care less about supporting an event. psh. ah well.

i think that's all. i'm not looking to be huge. if i could get the above, i still don't think i could support my wife and i by quitting my job and going on a full-time music salary, but i would be doing more shows etc, and having more fun with what i love to do.

lol Billy, you wouldn't even want to quit your job & go full time on music $$. The average artist that's signed (not majors), only make between $20-40K yearly.. If even that. There's also a lot that make sub $20K, I've seen this one artist who pulled $9K a whole year through his label.... Sad... I haven't even quit my job to go full time in the business LOL. I would suggest putting X amount of $$ aside each day/week/month/year for straight music manufacturing/distribution/promotion. You got your music down to an artform playa so does Change. It's the distribution/promotion that is needed more than ever to make it. I can't judge though, cause I don't know exactly what you guys do. I know Change is doing a great job, doing shows, and hustlin' that music. Anyways, we need $$ to make $$, stretch em dollars out, and play the cards right, and it's really a piece of cake... I used to think that the industry was REALLLLLY hard to succeed in. Then, these days, it's really not as hard as I thought. I mean, it's still hard, but it's doable.

cause if your not doin shows or showing a strong fans base its hard to get in by just sendin in a demo cd...get a fan base..pack the show..and have them come to you..then you will be heard by the right people..

Billy and I don't do the same thing. I would classify Billy as a Christian Artist. He makes music for the purpose of praising God, and giving thanks. His market, for the most part, is Christian youth/young adults. He may say differently, and I certainly can't speak for him, but that's how I see it.

I don't make music for Christians. I don't do shows at churches. I make music for people who love Hip-Hop. I'm an emcee, and I happen to be a Christian. So naturally, God is included in the many things I spit about. However, unlike Billy, it's not the focus of what I do. I make music because I love music. So while I may write a song called "Atheists" and spit about God, I'll also write songs like "Pop Off" and "Tears of a Man" where I talk about the game, and the violence I grew up in.

A lot of "christians" don't like my music, because I don't sugar coat reality. I spit about drugs, gangs, murders, and everything in between. The difference being, I try to put a positive twist in it by saying there is a way out of that lifestyle, and it doesn't have to end in Jail or Death. I think that's why A&R's don't like me. I contradict everything their artists are putting out there... Funny how the truth does that.

yeah, Change, you're right. i view us as the poles of Christian hiphop.

my audience is church for the most part. Christians looking for an alternative to what's in the mainstream. not saying the unsaved can't or won't hear my music, it's definately for them too, but the bible specifically says that the ways of the Lord are foolish to the unbeliever. so while i'd hope my music reaches the lost and helps lead someone to Christ, it's "preprogrammed" to exort the church body. i put that scripture in there because, as a friend just discussed w/ me over the weekend, if a person wanted to hear Truth, they'd find it. most people listening to secular artists don't want to hear about God and Christianity. so that's why i say my music is "preprogrammed" for the church.

for the record: i can still write songs without mentioning Jesus or Lord or Christ, i just choose not to you'll see tho -- some of the stuff i'm working on now will show you a new side of Bo.

A strong team of artists, engineers, and other producers. It'd be nice to not have to do the one man act, but a lot of so called artists around me, don't really grab me as such.

More info on other skills, to know and get better at my craft. Luckily, I'm finding nice tidbits piece by piece.

A nice office set up to do it all in.

And enough revenue for promotion and advertisement.
