Question

Here's my plan for a humble but (hopefully) sufficient studio. I can't afford more, so if you have substitutions to offer, please make sure that they are in the same price range. I won't be able to do much in the way of changing the room around, so I'll just have to deal with that when I come to it. I don't have the luxury of being able to audition different equipment, so basically I have to rely on what I hear from all of you guys on here and spec sheets.

I'm just a songwriter who plays piano, with a couple friends who play guitar, so this is for me to lay down my songs in a presentable format. Hopefully I will be able to make some pretty good sounding recordings with this. I will include approximate prices just for reference. Please tell me what you think.

Roland VS-890 ($1500)
AT4033sm ($350)
Art Tube MP ($100)
Lexicon MPX-1 ($800)
Alesis QSR ($500) (I have a Roland digital piano to use as my master controller)
Alesis M1 Active monitors. (500)

Do you guys think this will make for a pretty good studio? Like I said, it's all I can afford. Just want to get a few opinions.

Thanks,

Personally, I'd swap the Alesis monitors for some flavour of Event monitors...

Don't forget about getting cables and all the little accessories (mic stands, headphones, etc...)

What about the new mackie monitor? I liked them alot for their price point. Also yorkville's specs look good and have got great reviews from folks here. Have you looked at computer based system? I think that would be a better idea, because of the upgade ability. The rolands are nice but once you out grow them, there is nothing else you can do.

Yup... Yorkvilles are good (especially on the budget) - haven't heard the Mackies yet, so I can't comment...

Question BRUCE - Event 20/20s?

Bruce,

I found these monitors on Sweetwater's site. Could you check out this link and tell me if these are the ones you were talking about? If these are the the particular model(s) you were talking about, I'm very very happy with the price!!!

http://www.sweetwater.com/store/resu...iteria=Results

Let me know please.

Hey Tax...

Those in the link are the passive version... it's the PSx series that is all active....

The active version of the 20/20 is called the 20/20bas and the sweetwater link is http://www.sweetwater.com/store/resu...iteria=Results
(of course, it's more expensive...)

Sorry about the confusion...

Bruce

Bruce,

Don't apologize about any confusion. LOL I should apologize for not realizing they were passive before I got all excited and posted that question. *smacks self with frying pan.*

Thanks for the help.

Red face *GASP*

OH . . . . . . . MY . . . . . . GOD!!!!!!

I just ran across the Event 20/20bas on Sweetwater's website and they cost $420.97 A PIECE!!! Okay, so maybe I'm making a big deal out of this, but I expected them to be in the same price range as the M1s (500/pair). Sheesh *wipes brow* looks like I can cross the Event 20/20bas's off the list.
