Question

I know you all are sick to death of this question, but I really need some input. I need a compressor that can be used across the mix, what are some good compressors to go with? How much do I have to spend to get a good compressor (not the best, mind you...but good)?

The RNC (really nice compressor) - a $2K compressor for about $200 dollars - seriously....

http://www.fmraudio.com (manufacturer)

available from http://www.mercenary.com - even Fletcher (the owner of Mercenary and serious audio pro) likes 'em!!!

Absolutely... unless you need more features (such as gates, dual mono processing, etc...) which the RNC doesn't have...

Across a mix I find that I need a three-band compressor. I haven't tried the RNC, though, maybe it's good enough even though it's just one band. Today I use a Nord Modular for that, and is makes a good job. (You could use a Micro Modular, which is much cheaper).
Haven't tried any other three-band compressors though, so I don't know how they compare.

You want, no, NEED an RNC - you get one, and I promise you'll never look at another multi-band again!

OK...
FMR Audio finally has a distributor here in Sweden now, so... I'm gonna get one, but I still need monitors, a mixer and a good reverb more, so I'll guee it willtake a year or two before I buy it. The modular still is better than the rest of my stuff.
