Drum Samples

Hello, hello,
I've been working on some projects of mine, and have gotten to the point where I'm ready to replace that crappy beat-box drum sounds I'm currently using with something a bit more realistic. I was wondering what kinds of recommendations people here have for realistic drum sounds I can use. I'm willing to spend some money, but would prefer free suggestions first. I've messed with the demo for FXpansion's BFD, and it's pretty nice, but the learning curve is steep, plus the product is (I think) $300, which is way out of my league. Any help would be appreciated.

Try this. As the name implies, it's 'EZ'.

SSScientist, why didn't you push the Midi angle???

I ordered a package from www.drumsondemand.com

Listen to their samples, the quality is excellent and they wont break the bank. Depending on your sequencer, you may also be able to change the tempo of the tracks, giving you greater flexibility. My drums on demand should be arriving any day, I will report back.

Another vote for EZdrummer. Sounds great, easy to use and won't make you go broke.

If I were interested in going to the "midi angle," what samples would you recommend?

Assuming that you have your drum parts laid out with GM sounds and just need to replace them, what you need is a drum-oriented plugin sampler that plays many formats, including good ol' .wav files.

I recommend you try Shortcircuit, which I have found both easy to set up and to use. There is a two voice demo called 'Shortcircuit Free' that's available from the Vember Audio web site, so download that and see how you like it. When you've done that, just Google for free drum samples --- there are about a million of them out there.

Start here.

nskit is good and its free, lots of good samples.

With Reaper + EZDrummer you can load a MIDI file and render it through EZ to get the good drum sounds.
