N00b question I guess...

I bought my SE2200A the other day with a standard heavy duty boom stand to prop it up. I put the stand together and went to attach my shockmount to the top of the boom stand but I found that the screw on the stand was too large for the screw on the shockmount.

I know SE do their own stands for a VERY expensive price. Have they kinda rigged it so I'm forced to buy their own brand stand?

Look closely at the threaded part of the shockmount. You'll see that you can unscrew the male insert which will make the threads set up for your mic stand. It is set up for European stands the way it is now.

Hi,

The American standard is 5/8 x 27, 5/8 inch in diameter 27 threads per inch. This is a very unusual size that is only used on mic stands as far as I know.

The European standard is 3/8 coarse thread. I believe it is 3/8 x 24. This you can get at any hardware store.

Many microphones also come with the adapter. Apparently yours does too according to the previous thread.

Many people in America are unaware of this. When I figured it out and tried to find an adapter none of the local music stores knew what I was talking about.

The most fun I ever had with these was with a Karma mic. I don't know where they got their inserts, but I darn near never got that thing out.

Generally speaking, though, they fit a U.S. quarter or nickel pretty well. Failing that, try a small screwdriver turned sideways so that the length of the screwdriver goes across both sides of the insert and acts sort of like a crank.
