What kindof mic do you want to run thru them?

I use the Ultragain and like it just fine. I particularly like that the unit has EQ (although minimal) on both channels. I haven't had 'noise' problems with it either, on both dynamic and condenser mics. My 2 cents....

I've been using the ultragain for a couple months now. I'm pretty happy with it so far. The EQ is really cool, even though its somewhat limited. This unit works really for running bass direct too. I've even run my acoustic/electric guitar through it directly from the guitar with good results.

I'v got 2 and I'm happy with them. I've seen complaints of noise problems on this board, but I've never had any.
