Don't know about the NT5s, but a good pair (picked in person) of the MC012s are very good. I like them.

I have a NT5 pair and a pair of MK012s with all the capsules.

I think they're both decent pairs. To my ear, the NT5 are a little brighter-sounding.

The real selling point for the MK012, aside from price, is the multi-capsule option.

you asked if anyone could suggest alternatives....I dont know anything about the nt5's but I have a pair of matched mk-012's and they are AWESOME oh mics. However, in session about 3 weeks ago, I thought I had trouble with one....it turned out to be a bad connection but I didnt find that out till later. anyway...I replaced the Oktava's with a pair of MSH1's that I got for FREE (do a search on these mics in the ads forum to see how)!!! That was my first time using them in a session but I can guarantee that it wont be the last....they sounded absolutly fabulous....
