Opinions on the RNLA?

http://www.fmraudio.com/RNLA7239.htm

Are they as good quality as the RNP's and such? Or do the RNP's stand out from the company?

Thumbs up

Andy,

I have all of their stuff. I personally like the RNLA more than the RNC only because it has a bit more of a flavored sound than the RNC.

When I put it on vocals (in my very limited listening experience) they sound older or more vintage than when they are straight. It seems to have a very broad range of usable sounds and effects the levels in a more natural sounding way.

You know, the explanations that Mark puts on the FMR site are just about dead nuts on the money, so I would read there a bit. Mark also personally responds to the emails there so you might want to drop him a note asking specific questions, but my answer to your question is that the unit is A+ for my applications.

So far my two favorite set ups have been SM7 - RNP - RNLA and AKG414 - RNP - RNLA.

Hope this helps.

Jim

Andy, haven't used the RNLA. However, I have got terrific results with the RNC. I go from my Rode NT1A into my Mackie 400F and then use the RNC as an insert. The sound is really great IMO for very little money. It does add some "Color" but I like that.

If you want to here the difference it makes in Vocals check out these 2 tunes.

I used the RNC on the Vocals and Bass on the song "Magnificent Hero"

I didn't use any compression on the song "Innocent"

Some people like it, some don't. Judge for yourself.

I hope this helps

I have both RNC and RNLA. The RNLA has a nice thickness it adds and it doesn't squash transients if used carefully. The RNC does very clean, kind of invisible levelling in supernice mode.

Great gear.

I just bought the RNC on ebay; I saw it for the right price, and I really don't think I'll regret it from the reviews.. thanks guys!

P.S. I'll still be on the lookout for the RNLA if I like this one.
