VF160EX vs. MR-8HDCD - will I be disappointed in the latter?

Hey all,
I'm a former vf160ex owner who for financial reasons parted with my recorder some time ago. When I had it I absolutely loved the thing! I recorded an album for my project IRONIC PUNISHMENT DIVISION using it, and was blown away by it's sound. (You can listen for yourself here, incidentally www.cdbaby.com/ipdmusic )

Anyway, I'm back in the market for a new recorder now and was contemplating a MR-8HDCD due to its lower cost. As a former VF160ex owner, will I be let down by the MR-8HDCD or are they pretty much the same only with 8 less tracks and 4 simultaneous recording inputs? If that's the only real difference I could probably live with it.

Thanks in advance!

It's hard to know how many of the components are the same, or similar. The VF80ex is almost identical to the 160, but smaller... I've used both of those. The VF160ex is now going for $699.00 If you could do it, I would.

Well I guess I can end this topic - I went back to the VF160ex. The more I read into it, the more I saw that for the extra 150 bucks there are some huge differences. For example...

-8 tracks vs. 16 (obviously)
-The MR8's have no EQ's. Once you record it, you're stuck with it
-There are 8 tracks on the MR8 - but only 6 faders?
-4 track simultaneous recording vs. 8 simultaneous on the VF (16 if you use an "ADAT light pipe", whatever the hell that is)

Might as well go back to what I was happy with. Besides, it's unamerican not to go into debt, just ask congress! Dave Ramsey would be so disappointed in me right now!

Good choice.
I have 2 vf160's and a Behringer ADA8000 and love them.
