VSTis

I understand that there is some difference in quality between various VSTis.
Where do you get really good quality ones, and how much are they? I only need about 10, but I want good quality, orchestral instrument VSTis.

Thank you.

Take a look here before you shell out any cash.
http://www.kvraudio.com/
In the upper right it says "Quick Links are hidden
Click here to view".You'll find dropdown boxes for instruments, effects, hosts and developers.
A great many are free.I d/l a couple a week to check them out. It's fun.
I haven't tried out any orchestral plug ins, but you'll find them there. From what I've seen those instruments are pretty pricey, but you may find free ones.

Reason has some good instrument sounds, but it's more of a standalone program and not really a VSTi (although you can use it with ReWire I think).

The best orchestral one I've heard is MOTU Symphonic Instrument. I don't imagine they get much better than that.

Look here, they have MP3 examples and videos:
http://www.motu.com/products/software/msi

For less than $300 it's worth it.

But I would also suggest looking for some free/cheap ones before paying for anything.

Yeah it always depends on the quality of the sample, so obviously high quality samples will give you a better sound. Thats why they cost more. Did you have an instrument in mind?

Violin, Cello.
Piano, Organ, Harpsichord.
Oboe, French Horn, Bassoon.

Hey, I'm a melancholy guy.

Garritan Personal Orchestra is the one to beat in my humble opinion.

You owe it to yourself to check it out before splashing out for anything else.
