Christmas Songs

not the perfect place to ask but i dont know where else to.

anyone know of some good rock christmas songs? like rudolph and holly jolly christmas and shit only rock versions with drums? im probably gonna be playing some at a family event in a couple weeks. any help would be greatly appreciated. preferably something playable by a 3 piece rock band. nothing too technically crazy, like trans siberian orchestra or anything, but not too easy.
thanks alot.

I love 'A SPaceman Came Travelling' because its brilliantly 80s. Its Chris de Burgh.

Otherwise...Brian Setzer rocks up a few, right?

Here's one. Oh, you said it was family, didn't you? Well. maybe not... ;^)

http://www.redpeters.com/undies/lyrics/christmas.html

One that I just learned is Robt. Earl Keen's "Merry Christmas From The Family". There's also "Please Come Home For Christmas" (Charles Brown) and Brenda Lee's "Rockin Around the Christmas Tree".

Ever listen to any TransSibreian Express? Those guys have some fantastic rock versions of Christmas songs, "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" is probably their best. For more traditional stuff you might want to check out some Phil Driscol, he has some pretty rocky Christmas tunes. A classic oldie to consider is "Rocki'n Around The Christmas Tree" (Bill Haley and the Comets {maybe}), or maybe John Lennon's "So This Is Christmas." A personal favorite of mine is "We Three Kings" the guys I play with do a metal version which shatters Christmas balls all over the room. The main thing is to pick a few that you can have fun with. Merry Christmas

Funny you asked. I seen a commercial selling the Twisted Sister Christmas album last night. Of coarse the ones i heard were secular (white christmas, rudolf, santaclaus...etc). It would give you some good ideas.

Do you mean Trans-Siberian Orchestra? The Express is a train, isn't it? I love the band, and am actually going to see them this coming weekend.

Gary Hoey does some great christmas stuff. Check out "The Nutrocker" I think Greg Lake did it originally. Hoey's got a great cover. It's not too tough to play.

Here's my number one favorite holiday rocker: Make it a punk rock christmas with Bad Religion's version of Silent night (recorded live at a KROQ festival). It's a loud fast version of the Christmas carol with bits of some classic punk riffs (eg Black Flag's Nervous Breakdown). If you look around it's probably available for download somewhere.

Adam, I'm gonna write you a Christmas song:

December sky makes it dark outside,
There's a flicker in the shade;
As streetlights split the darkness
The dying sun has made.

(Enter drums)

The trees void of leaves
and gently brushed with snow,
The logs stacked by the fire
as the flames slowly grow...

(Crescendo....)

Fuckin' rock ya Christmas baby!
Mothafuckin rock your stocking bitch!
Fuckin rock and roll ya Christmas
Rock and roll all niiigghhhttt!!!

(Enter shred solo with floyd rose dive bombs and tapping)

Sorry, guys I'm real sorry. I'll be good. Im trying to study and theres alot of pressure.

Los Straightjackets did a really good, a la surf instrumental, arrangement of "Here Comes Santa Claus." It's been "a few" years ago, and I forget which late show - 11:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. slot - they performed on, but this one sold me on the Los Straightjackets surf sound. The go-go girls in mini-skirted Mrs. Claus outfits had something to do with it, too, but otherwise it was all about the music.

If ya don't mind what founder/drummer Chip Davis describes as orchestral rock, check out the Christmas albums by Mannheim Steamroller. IMO, their version of "Deck The Halls," on 'Mannheim Steamroller Christmas', is THE BEST out there. If all goes as planned, for me, this time next year I hope to have my own album (CD) released, of Christmas songs arranged a la surf guitar instrumental.

Lennon's version of "So This Is Christmas". John would be very happy.
