DrumaGog

I tried out Drumagog for the 1st time last night and couldnt seem to get the results I thought I would be able to acheive.
I am using the advanced version V4.
I am thinking that either its the bad gogs I am using or my lack of knowledge of this programme.

Does anyone have any tips on how to use Drumagog so it sounds like a real drummer hitting the drums? I am trying to replace quite technical and dynamic snare work.

Cheers.
Eck

Hey, eck
After working on your track myself, I'm telling you - nothing is going to be easy about replacing the snare on that track. Your drummer hits very dynamically....I could barely hear some of the hits...they hardly registered above the noise floor and the bleed from other drums was often louder than those soft hits....that's going to make drumagog alot more complicated. You're definitely going to have to do quite a bit of manual work. You'll probably need to break the track up into sections, filter it, limit it, probably copy and paste some shots to get it to replace all the hits...or you may not even want to replace all the hits. You'll definitely need a big sample set to replicate those dynamics. Alot of the samples that come with Drumagog won't cover it.
I've used drumagog alot, and when I was working with your track I ended up converting it to midi and running it through a sampler instead....it was easier. I was able to set my sensitivity really high when scanning the track, and then delete the false hits.

I always use "advanced triggering" with a good gog that fits the song well. I've faked out 99% of the drummers I've gogged.

edit - after reading Metalheads post, you may be screwed a bit. I've had some pretty dynamic snare tracks before, but I kept the bleed pretty low - and, most of the quiter snare parts were when the entire drum track was pretty quiet.

Dang, I aint sure what to do, as I really want to change my snare sounds for most of the album. I suppose Ill have to do some things manually.

Cheers,
Eck

Are the drum tracks still up somewhere?

Use the mix control. That way the quieter ghost strokes will be heard even if they don't trigger a sample.

Another thing I do is use two mics on the snare (top and bottom) I use the top to trigger Drumagog and use the bottom mic to pick up anything that Drumagog just won't get. It tends to sound more real that way.

That's probably the best and easiest thing to do, have you tried getting away with that eck?

Another thing to consider, I bet alot of those ghost notes can't be heard in the mix anyway. It might not matter if you replaced them or not. I don't know what the rest of your tracks are like..that may be a problem.

Cheers.
I am using the bottom snare track since there is less spill.
I suppose I could use EQ filter to get snare on top track.

The drum tracks are not up anymore sorry.

Ill give it a blast and hope for the best.

Eck
