seriousturtle is on a distinguished road
Question

i'm still trying to set up a half-decent home studio in my house. i don't even own a mic-pre or any compression. i've been using the cheap pre on my old mixing board. i'm thinking about purchasing a behringer ultragain mic220 and a behringer mdx1400 autocom pro. remember, i don't have anything yet, so i know this will be a huge step up. my price range is reasonably low, so these have been the best things i could come up with.

is there anything i should consider over these products?

and how would i connect these pieces to a mixer? (where do i plug the mic?)

sorry, still pretty much a newbie.

Ok,my man Bruce will eventually jump in this thread and suggest you check out an RNC comp (excellent comp @ $175.00 or lower depending on the dealer).I own the AutoCom and though it's not top of the line, it does the job! Especially the gates...excuse me a sec seriousturtle....
Yo'Bruce,pull-eease audition a Behringer comp! I would luv to hear your opinion on them. ...Ok,back to you seriousturt,
if you're on a tight budget, the AutoCom can be had as low as
$80-90 brand new(I got mine from Sam Ash when they were practically givin''em away!)
I have my AutoCom connected into 2 channels on my board via
each channels "inserts"(I use the AutoCom as 2 separate compressors)by employing a "dedicated" Y cable (send and recieve).
I never checked out the UltraGain, but there is a thread in this very forum about it. But before you by a mic pre, check
out a Mackie mixer,the VLZ series.Their pre-amps are great
and would eliminate the need to buy a mixer and a separate
pre. I own a Art,but hardly ever use it.
1 last thing, prior to any purchase of a mic pre, figure what kind of mic(s)you will be using.
Ok Bruce,your turn!

Hmmm.......... yikes! But hey, next time I'm gear shopping, I'll borrow one from the dealer and do an A/B/C between the RNC, DBX, and (choke!) Behringer and post the results....

Talking

Hey Axis.... It's me ears that do the listening, not me eyes (on the gear's label!)

Bruce

(But it IS hard to do, especially with the Behringer stuff!!!)
