Electro-Voice 664 mods

Has anyone ever modified an EV 664 to take a different capsule? I have heard if can be fitted with a SM58/57 capsule. I would like to use the mic for live vocals but not it has alot of feedback problems and an overall weak sound. Thanks in advance

Have you tried the mic as it is? It's really not that bad of a stage vocal mic at all, and was a mic of choice for vocals in it's day...

I think it lost favor, if for no other reason, than it's weird connector, although I have seen a few fitted with XLRs.

Give it a go...you might be surprised.
