Radio Royalties in Europe?
Crew…
How does remuneration for radio airplay work in Europe? I received an inquiry from a Romanian DJ who hosts a 2 hour show highlighting jazz guitar instrumentals; & he discovered our CD online; & wants to spin a few tracks over the airwaves to Romania (& also into Hungary & Serbia.) I know here in the USA the stations all subscribe to ASCAP & BMI…but was wondering how it worked abroad. I want to send him a CD, but I'm not sure how we would get paid for airplay…if at all. Thanks, mark4man |

I don't know exactly how it works - but I get checks from BMI which include royalties from Europe (in addition to USA). In my case it is for music used in a film (vs. radio play) so I don't know if BMI tracks the use or if the film studio/distributer tracks and reports to BMI - but my point is BMI does collect for use in Europe

your best bet is to contact bmi or the agency you are signed with and ask them - in the past, i have had questions of this nature, BMI was very helpful in supplying me info. . . i have yet to get a check, but supplying info was a very good thing they did1!!
