Talking Scrapping My Whole Album!!

Yup, im basically scrapping my whole album as of today, my manager was not thrilled at all. But let me explain, see i sat down this morning at about 8 and realized my album wasn't my album at all. It was radio's album, your moms album, your kids album, your album and my grandmothers album. See i was making music for every1 else but me, sure the concepts were mine but the direction the album was taking wasn't what i originally wanted. The single is still on it because for what its worth it represents the only commercial thing i want to be on my album and i like the fact that i hit so many nerves/topics about hip hop in these times in that song. This does mess with my timing as i was suppose to be doing shows next month but while i'll still be keeping my obligations i couldn't put this cd out in good conciense. I feel the music i do from this day forward is gonna be my best because it'll represent me, no excuses for a verse being under par and no excuse for a song not being a "song" to its fullest potential. i hope from this post all the artist and producers learn a valuable lesson, music is replacable but history records greatness, strive for greatness and when you achieve it you can say you were always the you you were when you 1st aimed for it.

Expect great things from me ya'll cause i expect great things from you!!

What up Soul B.

Man, I hear you on changing your album. I'm doing the same for almost the same reason. I wrote songs that weren't bad, but after listening to some of them, I thought I could do better lyrically and beat wise, so I scrapped about half of it and wrote new material. You know how sometimes you just step up a level out of nowhere and then it just makes what you used to do look like nothing. That's what happened. My album was written for me. If other people enjoy it, that's cool. I'm writing what I want, how I want, and most especially...when I want. If other people dig that and want to collaborate or contribute in support of it...cool. I finally got the laptop issues fixed, so I'll be busy as hell. Got lots to do right now and a good amount of time to do it.

Fiev.

I agree and disagree. But of course, if you are not feeling what you have put down, you indeed should re-tool. At the same time, you could possibly have a bangin "commerical" product that could actually appeal to all the various types of people u mentioned. In that case, I think it is "wrong" to deny those audiences the chance to buy that product - esp. when you could always "release" more than 1 product in a given time period - Hell, DMX was puttin out 2 cds/year [or at least it felt like he was - @ 1 time]. But hey, if you're not doing any of this for $ - then even "they" don't matter.

Here's the thing. You can choose not to put a track on your album and then go back to it later and retool it to the way you meant for it to be. I've written songs and then scrapped them for a project and then went back to them months later when I had fresh ideas. The new ideas for the songs helped it improve lyrically.

Talking Its not that...

Its the fact that my mind state was, "i have to make music that the people want to hear". Thats not how i want to make music, i want to make music that i like, the type of music i grew up on and using the ideas that i feel will make someone go "WOW". thats why i scrapped the whole album, not because of the music itself but because its not me, i want people to love me for the same reason they love outkast. i want to inovative as well as respected and none of that happens when u cater to the people, im sorry to say this but people are like children and just cause they're crying im not gonna say yes!! as an artist its my responcibility for alot of things and im taking this up with myself right now cause i know and you know im better than snap music, im better than east coast or west coast or even the mid west. I just wanna make "GOOD" music that we all can listen too, hell i wanna make music enjoyable for everyone again, hell even thugs dance to earth wind and fire damn it!!!
