Make My Dreams Come True

Here's a mix I just finished today - it's called Make My Dreams Come True. The link below should take you directly to the song page.

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/song...songID=4655736

I'd appreciate any feedback and comments you can provide on the mix.

Ido, cool song. Really nice goove.

Comments. Lower the rhythm behind the lyrics by a couple of dbs. And in the intervals keep it the current level.

And for pete's sake post the lyrics. Although the lyrics are understandable anyhoo.

Cool solo. I was imagining it with a slight more reverb. But it rocks just fine.

All instances of the tune like the one from 3:02 - 3:12 are just really cool.

I'm starting to think you can't write a boring tune even if you tried. Which is good.

THAT'S who it was!! I've been trying to figure out who Gerry sounds like and it's Steve Winwood!!!

Ah, thanks.

Gerry, see my previous comments on other past tunes about punch in the drums and needing a bass, but your singing andf playing just keeps getting better and better!

SWEEEEEEEEEEET.
My, you can squeeze a nice solo out of a stringed thing mate!
What is it about your songs that automatically brings a smile to my dial after just a couple of bars?
I like the level of the guitars.
The bass is not well defined in MP3 format. Give it a tweak in the usual spots (3KHz?) It doesn't need to be too toppy but does need its own voice.
Vocal levels are good.
I thought for a moment about girlie b/vox but decided that it'd be W R O N G.
Stevie Winwood WOULD love to write this well these days. You obviously do it in your sleep.

The opening chords remind me of ZZ Top. You've got a real warm smooth quality to this one. I like the song and the sound of the drums & guitars. Sweet lead break. Nice, real nice

Ido, it is really hard to listen for any mix flaws when your tunes are so well written and performed with such heart....so I'm not.

My favorite to date Gerry.

Nice one man...one of your better mixes. Vocals sound really good...I like the Clapton/Winwood comparison... Song does have that sort of thing going on.

Bass seems a little buried at my end...seems to sit underneath the guitars. Maybe give it a bit more volume/punch. I like the guitars...they seem to fit what you have happening very well.

And again, really nice job on the vocals.

gtrboy - got some funny comments from the gallery here when I told them what you said - you can probably imagine. Anyway I thought what you said was a big compliment - thanks!

bigbubba - you must have read my mind about the rhythm level. While mixing I thought maybe the first two lines of the verses were lower in volume - I was using my head voice instead of chest voice. I'm mixing this analog so I'll try riding the faders on the remix....Lyrics are now posted.... thanks for the compliment on the writing

Llarion - great to see you again, your musical expertise is invaluable! Are we going to get an update to your avatar - super sweet! Steve Winwood eh? That's cool! Yes no bass yet - I usually get a few of these together then have Mjhamil record all the bass lines in one go...I have about 5 in various stages now....Once they have bass I will need to remix and repost. If you get a chance can you clarify the punch on the drums - is it snare or overall volume....

RayC - thanks for the kind words...that solo is done on my Blackie. I'm starting to use a mic to record all my guitar parts. Your comments on the tone on Overtime inspired me to use a mic - thank you sir - I think it makes a big difference. Your bass "note" is noted - will get Mike to record some asap...
I could have used a bassier setting on my comp but thought no, I need some room for the bass later.....

Bulls Hit - so many kind comments - thank you very much...sounds like my setup is getting to where it needs to be....

true-eurt - such kind words are appreciated - it is inspiring from a great singer like you.....

Dogman - much of the improvement in my mixes can be directly attributed to the excellent feedback I have received from people, like yourself, on this forum. The time you take to listen and comment is greatly appreciated. I used a slightly different technique on every aspect of the mix this time...touch of highs on the vocals, micing the amp, up the drum level. Again, all things recommended in previous posts... I'll get the bass in there asap... thanks again....

Good song, Mr. Clapwood.

Do you have a keyboard?? At one point you were getting one I thought, this song could use another voice. Nothing eleborate, just a few whole notes to give it some different colors. Background stuff.

As usual, a quality tune.

It's a clarity and "thump" issue. A little edge, a little punch..

Oh, and I changed my avatar just for you.

Hey Gerry Clapton, the guitar tones (your strat?? ) and vox on this are sweeeeeeeet.
Maybe a bit more bass. This tune is real cool and rocking and moving, especially like the vocal performance and guitar rhythm. Real cool, dig it

jpw23 - thanks Jay for taking the time to listen - glad you liked it!

DavidK - Clapwood / Winton it's all good Yes I did recently get a keyboard - a Yamaha DGX305 - gift from my sis (how cool is that?). I have a long way to go to adding standalone keys with timing and taste. I also need to workout tracking since my current setup (ADAT) only has 8 tracks....but I will be working on that....
Thanks for the feedback - glad you liked the tune

Llarion - Clapwood does have a ring to it And cool new avatar you have there!

Snakedog - Yes, the lead is done on my Strat, I've found it most appealing lately....the rhythms are done on my #1 guitar - (80's ) Kramer Pacer Imperial. I'll be adding bass asap.....Thanks for the kind words also.....

sorry about the late response, listened to this a bunch of times in the last few days just didn't have the time to get on and reply. I always think your vocals are outstanding, this sounds as good as I expected. Like the lead guitar (2:08ish or so, fits in. Not sure if this song is a bit quiet or the last few things I listened to were a bit loud. Everything soudns solid, really liked the song. I always wish i had more to say but im a fan.

Take care man

Gary - Thanks for taking the time to listen and for the the kind words. I don't compress much on the mixdown. I might add some volume so the peaks get close to 0db without clipping. So it might sounds a little lower than some other cuts you've heard...I'm no masterer.....
Thanks again for the listen and feedback.....

You DO sound like Winwood. Good tune. No, great tune. I'd love to hear this with real drums and such. Good chops on the lead. I don't hear a bass. Is there not one or is it MIA?

Thanks Track Rat! There is no bass on this yet. I have to get my bass playing friend mjhamil to lay some down, then I'll remix and probably repost. Just wanted to get some feedback on the basic tracks....

I'd appreciate any feedback and comments you can provide on the mix.

The vocal is awesome man!So good that I am left with no choice than to mention that the rythm guitar is out of tune.(sorry Ido,you are always nice
to me about my tunes, but I thought you would want to know)
As far as mix,not much seperation between vox and guitar. That vox really needs to be at the front of this tune.
You do get an A+ plus on old school appeal and talent!

As far as mix,not much seperation between vox and guitar. That vox really needs to be at the front of this tune.
You do get an A+ plus on old school appeal and talent!
Hey SHEPPARDB-thanks for the feedback, glad you like the vox and the old school style...
I'll have to check the tuning on my guitar. I tuned it and then played/recorded a number of tracks - might have slipped a bit between tracks. I can re-record the guitars when I add bass....
Thanks again for taking the time to check it out !
