Another midi reason/pro tools question???

i really dont know if this is possibly but here goes, first i have reason on a laptop with a 410 soundcard its midi to my desktop through an 2496 soundcard, i am recording from reason through a tube preamp to pro tools 7. my qeustion is it possibly to sequence reason in the pro tools midi track or instrument track sequencer with out using rewire.

Pro Tools is on the desktop and Reason is on the laptop, right?

If that's the case with the two programs on separate computers there's no chance you'd be able to make a ReWire connection between the two. ReWire is to allow two programs running on the same computer to share common sync, tempo, soundcard outputs, etc.

The best you can do is to continue to program Reason on the laptop, lock it to PT on the desktop and record the audio output of Reason into one or more PT audio tracks.

Are you trying to compensate for two slower or older computers?

That's the only explanation I can think of for not running both programs on one machine...

You could always slave Reason via midi and work on it like that until your ready to record back into PT

my computers are both up to date, an rewire works good on both systems, my point in doing all of this is to run my the signal from reason through a tube preamp then to pro tools

I'll say the opposite. I haven't played around with 7 but the pt6 had the worst midi sequencer I have ever seen and is light years behind reasons. In fact, I think the sequencer in reason is one of the better ones I have used and has some unique features like the linear pattern sequencing

PT has been playing catch up with the midi side of pro tools for about a year now. Before that they didn't have enough respect for their users to include midi on their lower line products.

The Reason sequencer has it's limitations but is still a notch above the tacked on feel of the pt midi side.
