DX4 Monitors, Blew one up...

I recently bought a pair of DX4's and somehow managed to blow up the left speker while attempting to connect the wires into their terminals. I don't know wether it had to do with the fact that the speakers were turned on and also my pc and audio card were turned on, or wether it had to do with connecting the wires into the wrong + and - terninals. I know the dual wires are coated with an orange-clear and clear plastic wich I assume is to differentiate between the left and right wire. I order a replacement and I don't want the same thing to happen again. How should I connect the wires? And forgive me if this problem has been dealt with before but the manual didn't indicate wich wire shoud go where. Thanks.

It's not a wrong wire into wrong terminal problem.

You hit the nail on the head with the monitor being turned on and the pc on at the same time. Ever notice a "pop" when you plug in a guitar into a turned-on amp or something similar? You blew it up because it took all that power at once. When your replacement comes in, make sure everything is turned off when you hook it up, and then energize the pc and soundcard first, then the speakers with the volume levels down.

I'll make sure NOTHING is turned on while hooking up the wires haha,
My speakers will be here in a matter of hours, really looking forward to receiving them. Thanks, appreciate the help.

Just a quick update. I got my monitors yesterday, hooked them up they're working fine! BUT, the main speaker, the one with all the outs, on/off switch, etc. gets really hot. Is this normal?

how hot?
It has a small amp in it so it should generate some heat.

Make sure you don't cover them with anything.

If you are talking hot enough to burn you, you have a problem.
