Firepod - Do I need a Pre Amp?

Hi. I've have been hearing that alot of people have preamps and I'm kind of confused and wondering if I need one. I have a Firepod that already has 8 mic pre amps built in, do I need to have a pre amp or anything between my microphone and my Firepod?

Thanks.

not until you lose your mind with gear lust and need something in between to add 'color'.

... but you could easily "upgrade" your sound with a nice sounding preamp, specially on vocals.

But you don't need one.
