CUBASE LE QUESTION- Havin' problems

Could only get one audio track to record at any one time last night (first night trying to get my Jazz band's demo down.)

Tried all kinds of things in the Devices menus (both with VST ins and outs)

had a blue light on my firepod, but also got a sync error message.

Wound up recording one track, split stereo, to get the room mics. But Could not take the vox seprate! Grr...

What is the deal. Why does the record enable button on each track toggle off teh record enable button on another track? I tried clicking on more busses, etc.. To no avail.

Help!

There is a Cubase forum here.

Post this question there and I'm sure you'll get a quick answer.

Thanks.

But I basically got advice to do something I already tried in the Cubase forum. Though't I'd cast out my line in here since it seems like such a simple noob question.

it really sounds like a vst input setup problem... under devices make sure all of your inputs are configured there... the tab says vst connections... configuring 2-8 is NO different than just 1... just more of them.... and when all else fails RTFM.... then if it persists give us a yell...

The Manual Sez...

The manual says that something should be coming up in that devices menu that just isn't.

When I go to VST Inputs, only two are showing up, allowing me to do one track in stereo, but nothing else.

You're right that a deeper read of the manual is in order, but there is some kind of set up issue going on, but I definitely have done all the normal things to get this problem squared away.

Is there any difference between using my 6 pin PCI card FW and using the regular 4 pin FW input on the laptop? I just don't want to buy a $40 cable.

what he said...

THat is yo problem. You must enable the other vst inputs. Then assign an input to your audio track channel.

You must also enable your I/O in the multitracking contol panel in cubase.

Cool-- you've given me something new to try, thanks- but can you give a path to that panel? I really am reading the hell outta the manual, but it really is pretty weak-- I mean, it is giving me nothing on how to get more inputs to show up in that VST Inputs window .

All I am getting in the Devices---> VST Inputs window is Soundmax Digital Audio 1 and Soundmax Digital Audio 2.

Whoa... in one post you wrote FirePod and in another post your wrote Soundmax. I would think that a FirePod device would show up with the name FirePod, or Presonus something. I would not think the FirePod would show up as something called Soundmax. I could be wrong, but maybe you have more than one audio device in your computer, and you have the wrong one active. I'm thinking the Soundmax device might be the default audio device that came in the computer. You don't want that active anymore, you want the FirePod active. Check your device manager in the operating system and make sure only the FirePod is the enabled device. Disable the default audio device that came with the computer.

Thanks, nick-- That's why I was putting all the names of the input channels that were being recognized by Cubase-- I was hoping someone could pick out where the problem might be if I put everything that I was seeing.

I will try to shut it off in Device manager-- but I have already been poking around in there all over the place, and trying just what you suggested-- Let's hope that with more confidence that I'll find the problem there, I might be morelikely to actually find it.

Joe

dammit. soundmax is the only selectable option. and there is no off button, nothing. the advanced option just turns on a green o-scope looking wave form that registers sound when I drum on the plastic case of my laptop. I am convinced there is some internal microphone on this thing (a recent HP laptop)

grrrr

ummm

ok. figured out how to turn soundmax off.

Now booting up Cubase gives three errors about how no sound divice can be loaded, etc.

also, the volume controls on the computer are all inacessible now.

I don't think that is the problem. soundmax is a pretty standard audio driver on pentium computers.

*edit* nick, it's almsot the same laptop you have. I have an HP/Compaq nx6110....

You are actually ont he right track, reinstall any drivers for the firepod.

You may even have to reboot a few times for the thing to settle itself out.

Did you disable the soundmax card in CMOS? that is the most effective way to get it out of the picture.
