Alesis fireport

I don't know if this would be illegal or not but I have projects that I have done on my hd24 hardrive and the school has a fireport that I can use however they don't have the software i need ( or least they claim they don't) to make it work on my computer. Is there anywhere I can get a copy of the software or am I SOL?

If the school purchase the fireport and has a receipt and contacts Alesis for the software with a small fee Alesis should be able to send another copy out.

Red face

I think you can download it from the Alesis site can't you?

http://www.alesis.com/index.php?id=58,32,0,0,1,0

I think when I first got mine, I ended up downloading a different version of the software, but I can't remember if I needed a serial number or how exaclty it worked.

At least a place to start...

no. you can only download the version updates. If you don't already have a CD install version loaded, it will not install the update.

You can use Marc Brevoort's HD24Tools.

http://ringbreak.dnd.utwente.nl/~mrj.../download.html

They've been widely discussed in the HD24 group over the past year or so.

Thanks for the links Gilliland! This looks pretty interesting.

My Fireport software has been very flaky lately (not sure why). This might be a nice alternative.

My fireport is very temperamental as well, it's very much a finger's crossed operation as it can stop uploading at any time (not sure if it's a software issue or the IDE socket connection as twiddling with the IDE socket sometimes seems to help)

I know HD24Tools reads a FST drive, just wondering if that means you have to open up your PC to insert the drive or use an external drive caddy... or whether Tools can read the drive whilst it's plugged into the fireport.

I haven't actually used Marc's software myself, but it is my understanding that it will read the drive no matter what interface it is attached to. So it could be a direct IDE, could be Firewire, could be USB2.0, could be just about anything.

Cool... it'll be interesting to test out the transfer speeds using the different connection methods. It currently takes about 15-20 minutes to upload a 12 track 90 minute session using the fireport (a dream compared with the overnight ethernet route, but still quite frustrating if you're short on time) reading direct from an IDE connection (ata-100MB/s) should be at least twice as fast as a firewire connect (400Mb/s) if my sums are right
