voxengo boogex.

its a .vst guitar amp/ cabinet modeler. i never was big into running my tracks through amp sims and the like so i never really tried this out untill a few days ago. i then realized it had an impulse file generated cabinet modeling system so i downloaded a bunch of impulses and my guitar tracks have never sounded thicker. it just really livens the guitar up and actually makes it sound like a guitar amp. now i just leave the amp section alone and use the impulses to fatten it up. i was just wondering if anyone else has used this, and if anyone has some impulse files that they like and would like to share.

Hey surfmaster

I'd never even heard of Voxengo's Boogex software until you mentioned it. I'm going to have to download it and give it a shot.

As for impulse files, I found a list of some here:

http://www.voxengo.com/impulses/

Here's another site, although I'm not sure if they're the thing you're looking for:

http://www.cksde.com/p_6_250.htm

Also, it looks like the same company has some software allowing you to create your own:

http://www.voxengo.com/product/imodeler/

I'd imagine it might have some presets available you can copy over to Boogex.

Good luck!

Here's a bunch (over 200) of my Cab Impulses

Keiffer's Cab Impulses

Mine are best used with a Stereo Convolution like Voxengo's Impulse. Boogex is mono so you'll only get the Left Channel

Enjoy

What exactly is an impulse never heard that word before in guitar terms?

an impulse is sort of like a snippit of sound recorded in a certain room or area. these impulses are loaded into convolution reverb plugins which generate reverb according to the nature of the impulse. i think thats how it works but im not sure so if someone could clarify that would be great.

but most of the clips i work with for guitar are mic/amp impulses that emulate a cabinet's sound very well and to my ears make guitars sound like an actual amp rather than just a recorded signal.

I downloaded the Voxengo's Boogex recently & whilst I'm not overly fussed on the presets amp sound the cabinet & mic'ing options are really good. I don't know that they're accurate but there're a heap of variations & tweaks to a guitar sound that can be had from them.
Good fun anyway.
I've yet to attempt to tweak the amp settings.

i really like how it lets you mix in different amounts of different signals too. like you can mix in a certain amount of completely dry signal, some of the signal that went through the amp, and some cabnet impulsed signal. i especially like to use it on distorted guitars, bypassing the amp section and only using the impulse section. it takes of the hiss and edge that usually sits around 4kh and makes it sound more round and real. a great freeware .vst for anyone who would like a nice, applicable convolution reverb. i also just downloaded the SIR convo. reverb to give it a shot with some of the impulses shared here.

*edit*
hey keiffer, just wondering, how did you make those impulse files?

not yet, but im working on a demo for a punk band and i'm gonna run the guitars through it. i also found some sansamp di impulses so i might do bass as well. the stock impulses are pretty bad, save a few. i could put up some rough instrumental mixes on here soon.

The only thng I have is the guitar solo in Wah Wow (But Is It Art?) which is on my 1st link in my signature. There is some other stuff onit & it went through a wah wah pedal 1st but the sound isn't too bad - pre tweaking too.
