Will Merom run Cubase LE?

Hello,

I'm planning to get a macbook. Thing is when i'll have the budget for one, Core 2 Duo might already be integrated in them. I know Roseta runs Cubase but will merom?

My (uncomplete) setup: Firepod - Macbook - Cubase LE

Merom will run it just fine, if you're asking from a computing power standpoint. The question is not about the processor, but whether Cubase LE is already written for Universal Binary which is what the Macbooks are. The answer to that is no, not yet anyway. Cubase 4 is compatible with the new Intel Macs, so you gotta make sure the LE that you're getting is Universal Binary, which is only Cubase 4. I think the only versions of Cubase that are Macbook compatible at this point are Cubase 4 and Cubase Studio 4 (the cheaper version).

Bad news for me. From the steinberg support website:

Jul 21 2006
Support for Intel-based Macintosh computers in future Cubase, Nuendo and Virtual Instruments versions

With MacIntel technology gradually finding wider use, we’re pleased to announce that future versions of Cubase and Nuendo will be fully compatible with Intel-based Macintosh computers. However, we do not plan to update the current version 3 ranges of our Cubase and Nuendo products for Intel- compatibility. This is because we would like to focus our development resources on the next versions of the Cubase and Nuendo ranges, to make sure that they are released with the highest possible product quality. We are also working to ensure that the transition path for our existing and future version 3 customers will open up the benefits of Intel technology for Macintosh users of Cubase and Nuendo.

We are also proud to announce that our first VST instrument version that is compatible with Intel-based Macintosh computers, Groove Agent 3, will be shipping in September 2006. New VSTi products launched in the future will also feature Intel compatibility. We are developing approaches to adapting our older and existing VST instrument product versions for MacIntel, and will publish more information about this at a later point in time on our website and in the respective support forums.

Thanks,

Your Steinberg Team
